What's new and what's been fixed around the tavern, newest first.
When the whole party falls
Writing up a session that went badly for everyone? A Tale of the Fallen can now be
a party wipe. Tick TPK - The whole party fell together, name everyone who went
down, and the Mausoleum gives them a grave each — no more writing the same story
out ten times.
Where they lie depends on where they died. A party that fell at one of the club's
tables is buried in a tomb of its own, opening off that table's chamber — so
walking that chamber walks the campaign, and a doorway appears at the moment that
party died. A party with no table gets a chamber of its own off the main street.
Either way, you'll know the door when you see it.
Aside from that, when entering a Tale of the Tallen, the title and name fields now count down as you get close to their limit, so nothing gets cut short after you press save.
Reminders now tell you the right time
Corkbot's "Tomorrow" reminders in the chat — and the reminder emails, and the "Next session" line at the top of a chat channel — were showing game nights and sessions an hour later than they were actually scheduled. A night starting at 18:30 was announced as 19:30.
They now show the time the organiser actually set. Nothing about your games has moved; only the reminders were wrong, and only during the summer months.
One-shots get their own kind of table chat
If you run one-shots — a new set of players most weeks — your table's chat can now be open to everyone. Anyone in the club can read it and join in, so the people coming on the night can ask questions and sort out lifts without being added to the table first.
You'll find it on your table's page and under the gear in chat, alongside the two settings you already had:
Members only — just your table and the organisers.
Read-along — anyone can read; only your table can post.
Open to everyone — anyone can read and post.
Whichever you pick, it explains what changes before it happens — including that opening a chat up also opens everything already said in it.
Also fixed: pictures posted in a table chat now actually show up for people reading along, instead of appearing as a file name, and you can tap one to see it full size.
Chat: the first day's fixes
Chat went live yesterday and you found things. Here's the first round of fixes and additions.
On your phone
- The app icon now shows how many unread messages you have, and the channels button carries the same little red badge when the rail is closed.
- Turn on notifications from inside chat (gear → Notifications) and they start working straight away, instead of after you reload.
- Come back to the app after leaving it in the background and it catches up on its own. No more pull-to-refresh-that-isn't-there.
Finding your way around
- My Tables now sits at the top of the channel list, with the full Tables list tucked away below it. We're heading for a hundred tables, so your own are one glance away.
Little things
- Hover a reaction (or long-press it on a phone) to see who reacted.
- Reading along someone else's table chat no longer makes it look like you've pulled up a chair — you can read without appearing in their member list, and the same is true when an organiser looks in.
- Turning a table's chat read-along, or private again, now explains what that means before it happens — including the part where opening it up means people can read what's already been said.
Behind the scenes
- Organisers have better tools for keeping chat a decent place to be, and the Privacy Policy now spells out exactly when a direct message can be read for moderation, that it's recorded, and that the people in the conversation are told.
Live chat is open to everyone
Chat has been quietly in testing with the organisers, and it's now open to every
member. You'll find it in the sidebar under Board — or the speech-bubble icon
on your phone.
Channels for everything — shared channels for the club, direct messages, and
private group channels with their own member list. Your tables and game nights
get their own channels automatically, so it's easy to sort out plans and keep the
banter going between sessions.
Say it your way — share images with a caption, forward a message to several
channels or DMs at once, drop in a GIF, react with emoji, and link straight to any
message. Links to YouTube and other sites show a preview card.
Roll dice and run polls — roll dice right in the chat (including a proper
d100) with a tap-to-build roller, and start a quick poll with /poll.
Make it yours — pick a colour theme, choose Compact, Normal or Large text, and
decide whether Enter sends your message.
Notifications that fit you — set each channel to notify you about Everything,
only Mentions, or Nothing, mute individual channels, and switch on Do Not Disturb.
You can also get chat notifications on your phone — turn on On this device in
the Notifications card on your profile.
A few things worth knowing before you dive in: the chat runs on the club's own
server rather than a third party, messages are kept for two years and images for 30
days, and club organisers can read messages — including direct messages — for
moderation. You'll see a short notice covering this the first time you open chat,
and the full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
Type /help in chat if you're feeling lost, and please tell us if anything doesn't
work the way you'd expect.
Stronger privacy protections and clearer club rules
We've overhauled how the site looks after your data, in line with EU data-protection rules:
You'll be asked once to accept our updated Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and to confirm you're 18 or older — that's the prompt you'll see on your next visit.
The new Privacy Policy spells out in plain English what we store, why, for how long, and your rights. It now also lists exactly what the site keeps on your device — the few essential cookies that sign you in, and the settings you choose, like light or dark mode. We don't use tracking, analytics or advertising cookies, and we never have.
Download everything we hold about you from your profile. It now arrives as a tidy archive you can open in your browser — a readable summary page, your photos and images, and a machine-readable copy — chat messages included.
Delete your account whenever you like, with a choice to also erase everything you said in chat.
Chat messages now clear out automatically after 2 years, and chat images after 30 days.
Any chat message can be reported from its ⋯ menu — including as illegal content — and you'll always be told the outcome. If a moderator ever removes something of yours or restricts your account, you'll be told what was done and why, and you can ask an admin to take another look.
A few smaller things in the same update:
A preferred name on your profile — optional, and the name you'd like to be called at the table. Other members never see it: only club admins, event organisers and the DM of a table you're in, so they can find you on the night when you've RSVP'd under a handle.
You can clear the settings this site has saved on your device, any time, from your profile.
The Terms and Privacy pages were hard to read in light mode — their section headings have been fixed.
The site has a new icon on your browser tab and home screen.
When someone deletes their account, their old chat messages now show as Deleted user rather than a long internal ID, and their join/leave lines disappear with them.
(The live chat itself is still being trialled with organisers and will open to everyone soon.)
Crypt fixes: fights that follow you, and charges that didn't count
A few things reported from the crypt are now sorted:
Fights no longer carry on after a trap kills you mid-battle — and you can't win one you already lost.
One-per-rest abilities like Lay on Hands now actually cost a charge when used from your character sheet.
A fallen hero comes back properly instead of returning stuck at zero health. If your character was already stuck that way, they'll be put right the next time you play.
Pop-up text is harder to skip by accident when holding a key down.
Grease is now a bonus action, by request of Greasy Sid himself.
Notifications on top, sharing everywhere, and better maps
A bundle of quality-of-life fixes across the site:
Notifications — the bell panel no longer hides behind maps or other page content, and it finally has a proper ✕ button. On phones you can also flick it away with a sideways swipe.
Sharing from the installed app — the app has no address bar, so we've added Share buttons where they were missing: World Wiki pages and maps, the info pages, and each update on this changelog. There's also a new Share this page option in the profile menu and the phone's More sheet that works on every page.
World Wiki maps — zoom with your mouse wheel, and pins are now little flags, colour-coded by their wiki group, with a legend on the map telling you what's what.
A proper tab icon — your browser tab now shows the club crest instead of the old placeholder d20.
For organisers — crediting raffle door sales is much quicker: type a few letters of a member's name instead of scrolling a giant list.
Notifications on your phone
You can now get real notifications from the club on your phone or computer — even when the site is closed. Open your profile, find the Notifications card, and switch on On this device. You'll get a ping for the things you already have turned on — approvals, mentions and so on — plus chat messages and @-mentions sent to you.
On iPhone, first add the site to your Home Screen (tap Share, then Add to Home Screen), and turn notifications on from inside the installed app. Rolling out over the coming days.
Chat feels more at home on your phone
Typing in the chat on an iPhone is much nicer now: the keyboard matches the site's dark theme instead of flashing white, its return key says Send, and the page no longer ends up zoomed and off-centre after you finish typing. Photos are easier too — swipe a picture down to close it (or swipe sideways to flip through an album), and the close button is bigger and no longer hides under the iPhone notch.
Everything else
The full guildhall — tucked away so your tabs stay clear.
